A collection of images of the people and sites of Prague, Czech Republic. Prague is built around the River Vltava. On the east side of the river is the old town, with town squares and narrow streets typical of medieval towns in Europe. On the west side, lies the castle precinct, with its protective and forbidding construction and centrepiece, the St Vitus Cathedral.
The city has many arcades with stores, offices and apartments. The architecture is plain, functional, I guess a sort of modernist post-war aesthetic with influences from the communist era. Then, you will see older styles, harkening back to earlier ages of the strong surrealist influence in the city during the earlier part of the 20th century.
The Charles Bridge cross the Vltava river and is a focal point of the city, with store holders, buskers and thousands of people crossing to and fro on a daily basis.
Vltava River, Autumn, afternoon
From artist David Cerny, the finger was a erected on the Vltava River pointing towards the palace, as the President contemplated a return to a communist party government in August, 2013.
Statues on a break! These guys are buskers, they will stand or sit still for long periods of time, imitating statues.
While on the topic of statues, this one is from the Castle grounds, and his, ah.., private parts, are quite shiny from all the rubbing! It must be good luck for something as many women were polishing this part!
Statue, Prague
This cross is built into the pavement at the top of Wenceslas Square, Prague.
An office from the era of Communist rule in Prague. This display is in the Communist Museum, just off Wenceslas Square, and it was both an absorbing and disturbing visit. The sense of menace in this simple display of a desk and light was palpable; an interview station that could decide the fate of many lives.
Wenceslas Square in the centre of Prague. This square was the site of protests and civil unrest during the Prague spring of 1968
Puppets are found everywhere through Prague, and witches and such like, a common theme

A video of a glass player who was busking in one of the main squares. Wonderful playing.
